The Morenci Wildcats opened their home schedule Friday night at Lawson Stadium, falling 43–12 to the undefeated Willcox Cowboys.
Willcox entered the game 2–0 and kept its early-season momentum going, handing Morenci its second loss of the season. The Wildcats are now 1–2 after opening the year with a loss at Safford and a 14–7 road victory over Tanque Verde.
Friday’s game was stopped for an extended period after a Morenci player was injured and transported by EMS.
Our thoughts are with the player and his family.
The Wildcats look to bounce back on the road Friday, Sept. 11, when they travel to Bisbee to take on the Pumas at 7 p.m.
